Florida's Second Chance Act - ECG heart screening

Florida's Second Chance Act, enacted by the Florida Legislature in 2025, mandates that all high

school student-athletes in grades 9-12 receive an electrocardiogram (ECG heart screening before

participating in FHSAA-sanctioned sports, starting with the 2026-2027 school year.

The Florida Department of Health is supporting this important safety initiative by offering affordable

ECG screenings for students ages 12 and older. Sports physicals can also be completed during the

same visit.

ECG Screening Details:

• Cost of Sports Physical (includes ECG Screening): $70  (negotiable if income restricted)

• Ages: 12 and up

• Required for grades 9–12, starting July 27, 2026

• Sports physicals available on site by Appointment
