Hello, I'm Larry Moore, superintendent of schools, and I want to share some information with you about the Coronavirus. We are very fortunate in Jackson County to have a good working relationship with our local Health Department. And we have met with our local health director, Ms. Sandy Martin, and we continue to communicate with her. She is sharing information with us about how to be best prepared for the possibility of a Coronavirus. There are no confirmed cases in Jackson County at this time, and we just want to be the best prepared that we can be. The general rule and recommendation is the same as it is for preventing the spread of any other germs: hand washing is one of the most important things that we can do. It's recommended that will wash with soap and warm water for a minimum of 20 seconds--especially before eating and after visiting the restroom. Those are important-- very important--things to do. Use of hand sanitizer--hand sanitizer needs to have at least a 60% alcohol content to be effective. I want to just let parents know if their children become ill while at school, they will be sent to the health clinic on campus and then the parents will be called soon as possible after that. We are very comfortable and confident that our local Health Department is ahead of this and is working very diligently to keep us informed and as best prepared as we can be. We are, as I said, we're fortunate to have a good working relationship with those people. One of the things that is recommended that is if someone becomes ill, that they stay home. Even if they need to go to the doctor, it's advised that you call the doctor before visiting the doctor. Just limit that contact with other people. Sneezing, coughing, it's best not to cover your mouth or nose with your hand. It's best to sneeze into your forearm or elbow instead of coughing onto your hand. Touching common surfaces, such as a shopping cart or a gas pump, those are areas that you need to be conscious of and use those hand washing techniques or use hand sanitizer. So, there's other information available at the Florida Department of Health Website, or at the Center for Disease Control website at cdc.gov. But, again, we just want to be the best prepared that we can be in the event that we may have to face this coronavirus. We are working cooperatively with our local health department and following their lead. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Jackson County School Board office and we will be glad to provide any information that we have. Thank you very much. you very much.
