Half-Cent Sales Tax

The sales tax in Jackson County is 7.5%, the 0.5% benefits Jackson County Schools and is a voted tax.

Projects and purchases that were fully or partially funded by our half cent sales surtax in recent years are:

• The reroofing of Malone School in 2018.
• The hardening of the Cottondale High School front office in 2023.
• The current renovations to the new Hope School location.
• The update of the HVAC controls in eleven locations district wide.
• The fire alarm systems at Adult Ed and ECC were updated.
• The Graceville School cafeteria improvement in 2017.
• The Cottondale High School gym bathroom remodel in 2017.
• The gym floor project at Sneads High School in 2018.
• The construction of the new Marianna K8.
• The construction and remodel of the Grand Ridge PreK-8 that is in progress now.
• The relocation of the communications room at Grand Ridge School.
• The construction of the new Fleet Maintenance Facility.
• The Cottondale Elementary parking area and bus loop project in 2019.
• The reroofing project at Cottondale Elementary in 2022.
• The combination of the Graceville Elementary and Graceville High Schools.
• The repaving of the Malone parking lot behind the school.
• The Marianna High School football parking lot and bus course project.
• The new sound systems at high school fields.
• The 1 to 1 initiative that put computer hardware in the hands of all students and staff.
• Asset management software.
• The maintenance and upkeep of our district, keeping all facilities in good working order.
• Badge readers at all locations ensuring greater levels of safety.
• The IPro Camera System throughout our district. This came with AI technology and allows for not only cyber security but physical security as well.

Based on our current 5 year work plan, some of the future needs are:

• Renovations at the older schools
• CHS, CES, SHS, MAL, ECC
• District wide asphalt paving
• HVAC equipment upgrades
• District wide computer and technology updates
• District wide exterior painting
• District wide security enhancements
• Covered sidewalks
